Discover Gothenburg with Peter
We’ll explore Gothenburg on foot and experience a city in flux. Whether it’s dynamic or a giant mess depends on your attitude, but Gothenburg is definitely a city with lots of things worth seeing. It started as a fortress and the moat around the city centre is a reminder of that. I’d love to share my knowledge of the city’s fascinating history with you. We will take a long walk around the city, that shows Gothenburg then and now. This tour takes about 2 hours, but we can make it shorter if you prefer. At the end of the walk, we’ll fortify ourselves with fika somewhere. If we go to a café we each pay for our own food and drinks.

Tips from Locals
Peters tips for when you are in Gothenburg
- Trädgårdsföreningen
A city centre garden that’s just as relaxing to stroll around in winter as it is in summer. Continue the walk from Trädgårdsföreningen along the moat through Kungsparken all the way to Järntorget.
- Saluhallen
Saluhallen is a Gothenburg’s market hall – a temple dedicated to good food with an international touch. Great just to wander around and look, but it tastes even better!
- Kronhuset
Kronhuset was built in the 1600s as a storage facility for military equipment. Today it is part of a historic town square where you can have coffee and visit craft workshops.
- Take the free ferry from Stenpiren (the ferry with the green flag) over to Lindholmen. Gothenburg’s answer to Silicon Valley and home to some distinctive contemporary architecture. You can also purchase a regular ticket on the other ferries that work the river (SEK 35 adult). The ticket is valid for 90 minutes, so you can take a trip around the entire harbour area and see Gothenburg from the water.

Peter was just lovely. It was wonderful being able to learn so much about this city with such little time here, as he took us to all the spots - big and small - and explained the history and significance of them with clarity and expertise. Chris

My boyfriend and I met Peter on one of our first days in Gothenburg. We couldn't be more grateful for the experience to meet him and hear his perspective on his home city. He carried a set of pictures in a binder with him, and you could compare 1:1 the current day layout and buildings with what the city looked like in the past. That way of sharing the history made me feel very connected to the city, and what makes it the way it is. He has a balanced way of speaking that is very calming, focused on the facts of history - a perfect pacing to not be overwhelming, in the slightest. Even though it is a big city, after Peter's excellent tour and coincidentally meeting him again, it had a warm small-town feeling. I can't thank him enough for sharing his time and stories with us - and will definitely reach out on a return visit. Sam

The tour with Peter was really nice. I'm traveling alone and I had already walked in the city before the meeting, but I learnt much more information with him. He is a pleasant person who knows the history of his city very well and I could see that he was happy to share it. He brought some old pictures of the city to illustrate what he was saying. I really enjoyed the tour! Gladys
