Walk the beautiful Island of Hönö with Sarah
Have a walk with me around magnificent Hönö, in Gothenburg’s northern archipelago. We can decide together how long and what level of difficulty the walk will be. A shorter walk down to the harbour (where you’ll find shops, cafes and the Fish Museum) or a longer tour through Ersdalen nature reserve with its beautiful woods and barren rocks. I swim year round so bring a swimsuit if you’re feeling brave… If you fall in love with the island and want to stay longer, you can rent the top floor in our house through Airbnb. There are also bikes to rent at the harbour so you can easily explore the other islands in the archipelago.
About Your Host, Sarah
My name is Sarah Lycksten and I moved back to my family home on Hönö seven years ago. In my renovated barn on the property, I run an art gallery and give classes in old-fashion photography techniques. When I’m not taking pictures, I’m digging in the garden, hanging out with my chickens or doing carpentry.
Who this is for
We can adapt the walk so it’s suitable for everyone. The archipelago is beautiful all year but it’s often quite windy so bring some warm clothes and comfortable shoes! If you’re feeling brave, bring a swimsuit. I swim year round…
When?
My schedule varies so both weekdays and weekends can work. Just not too late in the evening. A short walk can take an hour whereas the longer version is about three hours.
Where?
From Gothenburg City you can easily take the bus to Hönö. It takes about 1 hour. The bus will drive on the ferry that will take you the last part to the island of Hönö.

Best local experience ever :) Sarah helped me plan our trip, giving me advice and being so kind from the very beginning. Then we finally met in person and she treated us like friends! She was so open and generous, introduced us to her people, invited us to her house, showed us around and then took us to the nature to see the traditional Easter bonfires. We felt so welcomed and loved and had a truly local and unique experience. Thank you so much for sharing your love with us Sarah! Cristina

What a fun and memorable experience! Sarah is such a friendly and interesting person to meet, and she knows all about the island history and Swedish lifestyle. She gave me perfect instructions for how to arrive at the island and was waiting for me at the bus stop. I really enjoyed chatting while walking along Hono's beautiful coast and the chance to take a cold dip in the ocean! Great cultural experience! Marsha

Sarah is the most generous person, I visited her on Easter and she offered to take me to the traditional Hönö bonfires, and it was the most amazing and typical experience I could wish for. We had great conversations about Sweden and life in general. She also has a very cute airbnb for people willing to stay longer. Thank you so so much Sarah ! Annabelle
