More community based initiatives to explore – a great way to live like a local

ÖGAT

ÖGAT, or East (Östra) Gothenburg’s Alternative Meeting Point, is a local cultural centre in a pop-up venue provoided by the property owner Aspelin and Ramm that offers art workshops, international women’s choirs, picnic concerts, and meetings dealing with music, food, international culture and environmental issues. The aim is to encourage people to make use of their abilities in their way. We are a non-profit cultural scene in Gamlestan and at ÖGAT you will find artists, musicians, ceramicists, food experience guides, producers, editors, and designers who are all active in Gothenburg. Utilising our respective skills, we collaborate under a common roof in the basement under Medborgarhuset. Our regular partners are the nomadic clubs Bellevue Jazz and La Vaca Loca, with whom we co-organize concerts.

For a year, ÖGAT has been working with building owners Aspelin Ramm and other actors in art, dance, quizzes, music, and theater, has been offered to develop an office hotel on the historically innovative ground where SKF used to have its headquarters. With this collaboration the property owner wants the same thing as ÖGAT: to drive change and for people to be involved and engaged.

Sharing a ride

Ride sharing is not only purse-friendly and sustainable, it can also give you some company along the way. Sure, it can be hard to find the exact route you want to travel, but several communities like Skjutsgruppen are on hand to help you find your way from A to B.

Community based tourism

There are more ways to get closer to the local community when visiting West Sweden by choosing community based tourism initiatives. We’ve collected a few here to get you started. Some of the websites are only in English so we recommend that you open them using Google translate. And don’t let that put you off making contact, most people in Sweden speak excellent English.
