Railway history and coastal walk with Marian
Hi! Join me for a lovely coastal walk in a historic setting. I’ll pick you up in my car in Linneplatsen in Gothenburg and we’ll drive past the old Säröbanan railway, closed in 1965. We’ll travel to Hovås where we’ll park, and have a wonderful walk by the sea, going as far as we feel like we want to. We’ll then find a cosy place to sit and have a ‘fika’ that I’ll bring with me. If it’s summer and you’d like a swim there are some fantastic spots to have a dip in the sea. We will also pass some historic houses alongside the railway. After that we’ll travel in my car to Snipen, where you can buy ice cream if you want to. When the tour is over I’ll drive you back to Linneplatsen. From beginning to end will take 3 – 4 hours.
About Your Host, Marianne
I’m nearly 70 years old and have lived by the sea all my life! I love trains, and especially the Säröbanan, which I travelled on a lot as a child. I have happy memories of watching semaphore being used to signal that the train should stop. The semaphore flags were like heavy road signs set in holders. The flags were turned towards the train, so the driver knew to stop there! It was a special experience, getting to travel on that train, as sometimes Gothenburg socialites were on it. It was really exciting to see the shipping magnate’s wife Anna-Belle Broström in high heels, as a child! Now I would like to share my stories and interests with you visitors.
