Join the adventurer Johan on a jogging in Änggårdsbergen
Änggårdsbergen is the forest in the middle of the city, right next to the Botanical Gardens, close to Slottsskogen and Linnéplatsen. This is my neighborhood. I live right next to the forest and mountains and I spend a lot of time here for recreation, training and relaxation. The nature reserve Änggårdsbergen is made up from a height, split by valleys i five partly very steep mountains that are covered with heaths in several places. Large part of the reserve is covered by forest and the area also has a couple of small lakes and mosses: Axelmossen, Finnsmossen, Trinde mosse and Torbjörnsmossen. We run on large and small tracks in relatively hilly terrain. We make a few quick stops to catch our breath and look out over city and sea. Bring some water, preferably in a water belt since it is a good idea to have your hands free when running in the terrain. The tour is 1–1 1/2 hours in a slow pace. It can of course be adapted to anyone joining the tour. Dress weather appropriate. We meet outside the Botanical Gardens or at Toltorpsskolan main entrance.
About Your Host, Johan
I’m born in Gothenburg and love nature. It is a fundamental part of my life, where I find energy and unwind. I like the difference between motion and stillness, both the inner and outer journey – a presence of being ”here and now”. I have been married to my amazing wife Christine for 20 years and we have to grown-up kids, Carl 25 and Lisa 23. Both are away at university (Stockholm and Lund). I’m in my 50s and have many hobbies: healthy food, nature and the city. Plus a number of activities in nature aside from jogging: walking or simply sitting down to enjoy nature. I also enjoy kayaking, cross-country and alpine skiing, roller skiing, biking and sailing. Sometimes I participate in a race, mostly for fun. I have taken part in a number of Vasalopp, the half marathon Göteborgsvarvet, Åre Extrem Challenge, Icebug experience and Dalslands kanotmaraton just to mention some. My training philosophy is to be in such good shape on any day that I could take part in a race on the weekend and enjoy the experience.
