A walk around Gothenburg and unusual facts

  • Offered in English, Spanish, Swedish
  • Gothenburg downtown
Hi! Join me for a walk in Gothenburg starting at Linnéplatsen, the southern corner of our city park Slottsskogen. I will tell the story of the park and some odd facts about Linnégatan as we walk down towards Haga and Järntorget. I might surprise you with the odd history of the square and some unknown facts about this important area! We will continue towards some iconic places with odd stories such as the Fish Market Fiskekörkan, Esperantoplatsen, Kungshöjd and the old Carolus Decimus Rex, then on to the cathedral which in its days housed more than just priests! After that we will head to what is today the School of Education but which fulfilled another purpose when it was built in 1772. Then we take ourselves to another market - Saluhallen - leaving Kopparmärra behind us in order to take the bridge over the canals the Dutch built and end up at Stora Theater, with its own odd historical facts! To finish, will stroll up the Avenue and end our walk on Götaplatsen and the controversial statue of Poseidon, an iconic symbol of my beloved hometown!

About Your Host, Cecilia

I am a 58-year-old English as a second language teacher with a passion for travel, languages and culinary experiences. I see myself as a traveling "foodie" with a special interest in odd facts about the cities I have visited or lived in. Born in Sweden but raised in Venezuela, I have lived in Gothenburg since 2003, I do love the history of the city and above all, I enjoy sharing what I know with others! I am a storyteller, a teacher, a friend, a counselor, a guidebook and an event planner, all in one. When I'm not at home in Sweden I run Casa Licerio, my own B&B on the French Camino de Santiago in northern Spain. Welcome to my hometown!
